Summer To Fall Skincare Routine

Summer To Fall Skincare RoutineWe are all guilty of wanting to update our wardrobe once the seasons change. But do you do the same with your skincare routine? Because it is just as important – if not even more important – to transition your routine from summer to fall. Or whatever season you may have ahead.

Skin reacts in many different ways depending on your skin type, of course. But also to the weather. In my case, I have combination, sensitive skin with rosacea. A whole cocktail! And I definitely need to take care of it differently depending on the season. For example, during the warmer months, my T-zone gets more oily than during the cooler months. During the winter it stays more on the dry side. I know it sounds obvious but not all skins react this way.

As of this moment, it’s a whole different ball game for me. Because here in Madrid, the weather is absolutely dry as a desert. And the cold isn’t even here yet, and I already have dry patches all over my skin. So I needed to transition from summer to fall my entire skincare routine earlier than I thought. And different than other fall skincare routines that I did in the past, due to the change in the climate.

SUMMER TO FALL SKINCARE ROUTINE

  • CHANGE TO A THICKER MOISTURIZER
I normally use a prescripted moisturizer that is the Bioderma Sensibio AR but I recently felt that it wasn’t enough to hydrate my skin in this dry Madrid weather. So I wanted to use something thicker especially at night. So I’m using the Bioderma one in the mornings, and in my night-time routine, I’ve been using The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane oil. And I’ve been loving it so much! I’ve been using it on my face, hands, and elbows. Because men, my elbows have been grossly dry recently.
  • CUT BACK EXFOLIATING
I love a good gentle exfoliator but only during the summer. Because I have found that putting all that sunscreen constantly, in addition to the sweating, etc. It’s best to remove all the excess product build-up at least once a week. In the winter we need to exfoliate as well. But I’ve found that during the cooler months my skin reacts better if I cut back a little in the exfoliating department. So I started exfoliating every other week, instead of once a week. I would also like to mention that I like exfoliating with chemical exfoliants, rather than physical exfoliants. And my favorite “daily” exfoliator is The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution (I don’t actually use this daily, just once a week). And the exfoliator I use every other week is The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. This leaves your skin feeling baby soft!
  • TRY A GENTLER FACE CLEANSING GEL
I honestly haven’t had a problem with my cleansing gel, because it is soft enough. But I know some people haven’t find the right one yet. But I huge clue to know that your current cleanser is way too strong for you. Is if you feel your skin way too tight after cleansing it! That’s not a feeling you want. So make sure to change things up!
My current (and by current I mean my favorite and what I’ve been using for almost a year now) is the Bioderma Sebium Gel Moussant. It is the absolute best!
  • STAY HYDRATED
I totally hate it when I see this tip in any blog post or magazine. But the reality is it is the absolute truth! You have to drink water and stay hydrated throughout the day! Many times, whatever skin issue you may have, can be easily fixed just by drinking water. On the outside though, besides using a moisturizer I like to mist my face throughout the day with Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Cucumber and Green tea + Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rose Water (basically the green and the pink sprays from Mario Badescu)
  • LOAD ON FACE MASKS
And last but not least, my favorite thing to do during the cooler months is to face-mask. What mask to use is determined by your skin type, and/or the skin issue you want to tackle.
In the fall, my main concern is dryness, so that’s why I really love soothing and hydrating masks. My absolute favorite one and my permanent go-to is The Body Shop Mediterranean Almond Milk with Oats – Instant Soothing Mask. This baby gets rid of my dry patches, itchiness, and redness! It’s absolutely magical and I can’t recommend it enough!

That being said, I just wanted to clarify that of course, I’m not a dermatologist. I’m just sharing what works for me and for my skin type and problems. So, of course, don’t expect that what works for me, would work for you! But I really hope that if you have the same skin type as I do, and/or the same issues, that some of these products help you in some way! Just as a reminder, once again, my skin is combination sensitive with rosacea!
